Anyone else here have auditory processing disorder? I find it's hard to explain to people the difference between physical deafness and APD...

Yep! I've found it immensely frustrating to try to explain auditory processing to people... why, for instance, I can hear random noises in the distance but not make out what someone's saying to me in the same room.

GAH! TELEPHONES! Seriously, how do people hear things so clearly with such horribly degraded sound quality?

For me, it's not feedback that's the problem; it's lack of frequencies above 4 KHz. Apparently my hearing is really tuned to high trebles...and of course the phone cuts them off, so everyone sounds muffled.

i dont answer the phone anymore. if it's that important, they can send an txt message or e-mail me or ring my doorbell and talk to me face to face.

yep. The way I explain it is that it's like having dyslexia except the letters get scrambled between my ears and my brain instead of between my eyes and my brain.

Not officially diagnosed, but I definitely have auditory processing difficulties heaped on top of being mostly deaf.

It makes it really, really fun to try and get anything out of some circumstances. :|

So here I am responding 9 months later, but I was looking for HH communities and stumbled upon your post. Me, me! It's not diagnosed but I'm pretty sure that's what I have. I can hear almost perfectly if I'm in a quiet room and someone has a clear, crisp voice, but I use an ASL interpreter at conferences and things because it's all just a jumble. It's hard to explain because I do hear things that people don't expect me to, and often in conversation it takes me a bit of time to "catch up" to what's been said.
